The research reported in this article was conducted with the purpose of identifying the main characteristics of entrepreneurs in the Cauca Valley region of Colombia in the last century. The document constitutes a partial report of a research project entitled “Distinctive Features of Entrepreneurship in Colombia and in the Cauca Valley Region of Colombia”, in progress, aimed towards adding new knowledge to the subject. Results reported in this document required the review of the literature related to the topic available in the libraries of the region and the identification of specific findings about a series of variables previously determined as defining a typical entrepreneur, related to the individual, the family, the firm, the industry or the economy.
