We discuss the concepts of geographical space, used territory and region in the perspective of hegemonic spatial labor division in the period of globalization. Although it is not a question of an empirical study but of a theoretical and methodological reflection, it considers the historical reality of the Latin American countries. We propose an analytical scheme with the following aspects: social-spaces heritages, a new spatial labor division, the big companies and regional consequences, new spatial production circuits at national and regional scales, cooperation circles, politics and power distribution. Finally, the scope of discussion is the simultaneity between the regional growth, the vulnerability of national territories and regions and the rise of poverty. keywords : Used territory, region, spatial labor division, cities, circuits of urban economy, poverty, globalization. fecha de recepcion: sept iembre 6 de 2009 fecha de aceptac ion: sept iembre 15 de 2009
