ABSTRACT The present article reviews the evolution of family studies in Colombia, from the pioneering work of Virginia Gutierrez de Pineda, noting how in her intellectual journey she, shortly before her death, managed to foresee the subject that will become one of the most important emerging research agendas in the study of family issues in recent times: the status of same-sex couples. Through the different concepts and types of family, the article is showing a genealogy of what is constituted as a basis for claiming a right to gay marriage, but also announcing the dissociation that de facto has been occurring between marriage and family. RESUMEN El presente articulo hace una revision de la evolucion de los estudios de familia en Colombia, a partir de los trabajos pioneros de Virginia Gutierrez de Pineda, senalando como en su recorrido intelectual ella, poco antes de su fallecimiento, alcanzo a avizorar el tema que se convertiria en uno de los temas mas importantes para las agendas emergentes de investigacion en los estudios de familia en tiempos recientes: la situacion de las parejas del mismo sexo. A traves de los distintos conceptos y tipologias de familia, el articulo va mostrando una genealogia de lo que se constituira como base para el reclamo del derecho al matrimonio igualitario, pero anunciando tambien la disociacion que de facto ha venido produciendose entre matrimonio y familia.
