The investigation project: Reading circles, a space of encounter: youngsters read to children, was founded on an analysis made by the Seminar group of Pedagogy, Language and Discourse. The group analyzed the socio economic background in Colombia, created by both, violence and the consumer society. More specifically, we analyzed the context in two different schools: the Jose Antonio Galan in Municipio de La Estrella, Antioquia, and the Colegio Britanico de Cartagena in Bolivar. In both the social, political and economic backgrounds are almost forgotten in the planning and delivering of teaching, impeding the transformation of the individual from an ethical perspective. Moreover, the teaching of reading skills and literature, both in the planning and in the everyday classroom practice, has become a routine that lacks motivation for students, keeping them away from the possibilities of using reading and literature to transform the world around them. This project then brings into perspective a different approach to reading and literature in the classroom while creating opportunities where teenagers and children share real life stories and experiences: the reading circles.
