The purpose of this investigation is to determine whether the implementation of the Democratic Security policy in the Catatumbo region allowed an improvement in governance within the studied area. In this context, the region’s unique features, the operational logic of its armed actors and the effects of the Democratic Security public policy's implementation are described and analyzed. What matters is to highlight its incidence in the construction of governance. Essential components of governance and Democratic Security concepts are examined in the light of the literature of Joan Oriol Prats, Federman Rodríguez and Rubén Sánchez, respectively.
