Sustainability tries to guarantee the needs of the present without compromising future generations, having three pillars: environmental protection, social development and economic growth. From the definition, a sustainability measurement rubric for Service Provider Institutions (IPS) was designed. Based on a review of the literature that addresses the notion of sustainability (and / or sustainable development), this chapter aims to explore this idea by identifying its key dimensions and the intertwined relationships between them. In doing so, the challenges and opportunities presented by an integrated approach to Clinical and Hospital Sustainability are also emphasized, along with the role played by the biomedical engineering department of a health service provider institution (IPS). In this context, the contribution of the integrated literature for the development of management, measurement and reporting models in the implementation of Integrated Sustainability is explored, from its three basic pillars; economic, social and environmental.
