The following thesis was conducted in order to make a strategic assessment that enables the implementation of a Balanced Score Card, very valuable tool for management control and decision making in the strategy-oriented organizations. Such a strategic assessment was conducted to SMEs in the plastics sector in Colombia, PROINPLAST SA, this family business gave an opportunity to work and to know all aspects of the business, interact with stakeholders in the sector and had the better provision for the completion of this project which will greatly assist the sustainability and competitiveness of companies in the sector. Some different tools were used to achieve the objective; among them are the PEST analysis, SWOT Matrix, the 5 forces of Michael Porter, the Diamond of Competitiveness and the Balance Scorecard. At the end of the thesis, the proposed strategy for the company and recommendations can be found to enable successful management and to make sure that it is going to be a SME oriented to the strategy.
