Objective: The main goal of this study is to describe the diseases and clinical characteristics associated with multiple admissions to the emergency department of patients with epistaxis to the Hospital Universitario Mayor Mederi between 2018 and 2019. Methods: Descriptive, cross sectional, observational study. The research was made between January 2018 until January 2019. Each patient's information was taken from their medical record out of the platform SERVINTE of the Hospital Universitario Mayor Mederi. Results: From 31 patients who had multiple admissions for epistaxis from 24 hours until 12 months after initial management, 32% are between 71-80 years old. It was also identified that multiple admissions were more common in men that women. Clinical admissions for epistaxis were more common in patients with arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus and heart failure. Most patients had septal deflection in 13% of cases. The left nasal nostril was compromised in 65% of cases, and the most frequent anatomical area compromised is the Cottle area II in 77% of cases. Conclusion: Multiple admissions to the emergency service for epistaxis are more frequent in older population and in men. The nasal anatomical abnormalities found in a mayor proportion were septal deflection, left nostril and Cottle area II. Arterial hypertension as an independent factor, as well as coexistent factors such as diabetes mellitus are the most frequently associated comorbidities.
