Female Sexual Dysfunction and Promotion of Disease in Colombian Print Media. Linguistic Elements Seen from a Critical Analysis of Discourse

Acceso Abierto

Abstract:

This article presents part of the results of the investigation entitled Fe-male sexual dysfunction and promotion of disease: approach from “criti-cal analysis of discourse (CAD)”, which applied the theoretical and meth-odological perspective of critical analysis of discourse to reporting in Colombia’s two leading newspapers with nationwide circulation, El Es-pectador and El Tiempo, in their online versions. The study addressed discursive and sociolinguistic dimensions, and in this article the focus is on the latter, based on the identification and analysis of the main rhe-torical, pragmatic, logical, and grammatical elements of the news articles that made up the corpus. Relevant findings include the use of a diversity of linguistic resources that help shape a discourse in which the journal-istic genre implicitly merges with the conventions of advertising
