REESTABLISHMENT POST-ICU PROGRAM: EVALUATION OF IMPACT OF A FOLLOW-UP CLINIC IN A PEDIATRIC HOSPITAL IN COLOMBIA
Aims & Objectives: Knowledge of health care requirements and preferences of patients and their caregivers is mandatory to create post-ICU programs. RESPONDER (Reestablishment POst-ICU Program in Pediatric Patients) was created on March 2023 as a pilot in our hospital. The aim of the study is to determine the importance for patients and caregivers to receive this multidiciplinary follow-up in Colombian healthcare system. Methods: We performed semi-structured interviews to caregivers of a cohort of patients that were admitted to PICU and discharged in 2022, but were not followed-up as the clinic started in 2023. Inclusion criteria for this study were determined by the same admission criteria for the clinic. Professionals contacted caregivers and evaluated preferences and needs related to a follow-up clinic. Results: 21 participants were interviewed. 81% of the patients had had any follow-up by pediatrician and pulmonologist, 43% had been receiving any therapy, and 9% psychology. 90% referred that they've would like to consult a multidisciplinary clinic and 71% indicated that would be ideal if follow-up would be at one hospital. 47% of the caregivers suffered mental disorders caused by distress during or after their child's hospitalization in the PICU. Conclusions: Post-ICU program aims to centralize the integral and multidisciplinary health care of the patients. This is why involving patients and caregivers become a cornerstone in the creation, development and implementation of a post-ICU program. Disease already carries a burden, and with integral and a multidisciplinary team follow-up, it can be mitigated or even reduced. Keywords: pediatrics, PICS, Caregivers, Healthcare system
