In February 2021, elongated grey lesions with reddish margin were observed on sudangrass (Sorghum × drummondii) leaves, in the municipality of Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico. These symptoms resembled those of leaf blight caused by Bipolaris and Exserohilum on other grasses. Two fungal isolates were recovered from symptomatic leaves, and their identities were confirmed based on a polyphasic approach. The morphological and phylogenetic analysis of the actin gene (act) and internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) of both isolates revealed their identity as Exserohilum turcicum. A pathogenicity test with a representative isolate confirmed this fungus as the causal agent of leaf blight on sudangrass, as symptoms previously observed in the field were developed on the inoculated plants. The E. turcicum isolate was recovered from the diseased sudangrass plants, fulfilling Koch's postulates. This is the first report of E. turcicum causing leaf blight on sudangrass in Mexico.
