This article presents the most significant results obtained from a survey that was carried out in 26 companies (local operators, long distance operators, cellular operators, TVC operators, internet service providers and technology suppliers), intending to generate an occupational characterization of the Telecommunications sector in Colombia. It is supplemented with an analysis of the educational offer that existed in Colombia, until December 31, 2002. The purpose is to invite the academic community to begin a deep reflection regarding the policies adopted by the State and the role that the educational institutions should be play in the development of human resources in this sector.
