Progresismo nacional y tradicionalismo regional: competitividad de los partidos de la coalición de gobierno en las elecciones subnacionales en Colombia en 2023
In October 2023, Colombians voted to elect sub-national authorities for the period 2024- 2027, involving 20,137 positions at departmental, municipal, and local levels. These elections were crucial to consolidate the networks and territorial power of various political organizations. Although in 2022 there was a shift in the electoral preferences towards the center-left, this ideological expansion did not reflect at the territorial level. This article describes the 2023 electoral process, focusing on three main topics: the types of competing organizations, the changes in women's representation and diversities in candidacies, and the competitiveness of national government parties. We use using official data on gender, ethnic representation, and sexual diversities to reach the main findings, which include the subnational weight of organizations independent of the national executive branch, opposition victories, and the increased territorial presence of new left-wing forces.
