Technological advances have allowed the emergence of new disciplines responsible for very specific studies in all sciences. Specialization has appeared thanks to the great accumulation of knowledge that human beings have generated in all fields and their temporary impossibility to cover them in an efficient way. Such is the case of entomology and biotechnology, which have been linked through the advances of molecular biology and genetic engineering to obtain a very particular and still undefined area, which has helped and will help humans solve problems and needs in agriculture, livestock production, medicine, pharmacy, and industrial production. This review aims to preliminarily analyze the historical development of entomology and biotechnology, and then point out examples of how these two disciplines have overlapped, generating common but disaggregated knowledge independent of each of them. Organizing this knowledge in a single area will allow its articulation, which can represent for humanity new paradigms and advances towards improving the quality of life of human beings.
