Policy brief: Foodborne diseases (FBD) in school-aged children in Chile, prevention, and challenges in underreporting. A contrast with countries in the region

Acceso Abierto

Abstract:

Foodborne diseases (FBD) are a public health problem with a high burden of disease in the school population. Multiple strategies have been designed to mitigate the morbimortality associated with these diseases; however, the figures available in our context do not reflect the true impact of this entity on the population. Close epidemiological surveillance together with the development of preventive programs implemented in Chile offers an encouraging outlook for the promotion of food safety in the Latin American context.
