The problem of wastewater discharge is a phenomenon that draws more and more attention due to the great generation of alterations it generates. The project was developed in the municipality of Pamplona Norte, Santander, Colombia, on a section of the Pamplonita River, one of the sources. most important water resources of this department, where the environmental impacts generated by wastewater discharges into the water source were identified and evaluated. The study consisted of analyzing the biotic, abiotic and social characteristics; First, an environmental baseline was prepared to know the state of the environmental components, then the water source was monitored, where samples of the discharge and the section of the river influenced by this wastewater were taken. The parameters analyzed were: pH, temperature, flow, BOD5, COD, Sedimentable Solids, Coliforms, Oils and fats. As a result of the environmental line, the state of each of the components studied was known, in the same way through monitoring the degree of biodegradability was found where it is evident that the water source after receiving the discharge presents a degree of Non-biodegradability indicating that the water flow does not correctly assimilate the polluting load. Through the evaluation of the environmental impacts, it was obtained that the components with the greatest alteration were the biotic and abiotic, because they are between the severe and moderate assessment ranges. Finally, solution strategies were formulated for the environmental impacts caused in the area of influence. This project presents the great alteration that is generated on the water source.
