Recent atrocities perpetrated in Ukraine have been declared both a “liberation” and a “genocide”. As well as narrative being used in politics as a call to action, religious narrative can either challenge or support injustice. This article aims to explore the misuse of narrative in the homily to justify violence or aggression against an ‘Other’. This will then allow us to examine the question of empathy in preaching so that we feel with the heart of Christ.
