Paradigms in the beauty concept are associated with a worldwide high number of plastic surgery procedures. Nowadays, biopolymers have been recognized as adjuvants triggering ASIA syndrome. Several of the mechanisms in the pathological pathways of ASIA syndrome include a predisposed, genetically susceptible host, a significant preexisting exposure to diverse environmental factors, and consequently an adaptive and innate immune response alteration that increases the risk of an abnormal immune response. The importance of a comprehensive clinical evaluation and familial background autoimmune diseases are highlighted to consider the use of prostheses or dermal fillers for esthetic purposes. There is limited and conflicting information regarding the treatment, but the quality of life is the main criterion for offering treatment. The extraction of biopolymers that may be done on asymptomatic patients with a history of immunological disease is not justified. Instead, the patient's risk criteria must be considered.
