The use of information and communication technologies in teaching-learning processes of social science in higher education: A systematic review

Acceso Cerrado

Abstract:

Teaching-learning processes can incorporate information and communication technologies (ICT) for transmission, mediation, interaction, and assessment in several fields of knowledge. This paper established the current trends in using ICT for social science in higher education, including online, blended, and ICT-supported learning. The review allowed us to quantify studies related to social science education, identify research trends, and identify ICT tools. The systematic review showed that: there is a lag in the incorporation of ICT tools in social sciences; most of the research identified were perception studies; few works introduce new digital tools; and few research studied the impact of ICT on student performance. This review establishes the advantages and disadvantages of online learning and some recommendations to incorporate ICT in social science teaching-learning processes.
