Transesterification of palm oil in basic media using methanol is also a known path to monoalkyl methyl ethers derived of fatty acids. In this work we report the Fischer esterification using methanol of a sample of local palm oil sludge (a fraction rich in fatty acids) and how during the extraction with ethyl acetate a transesterification reaction occurred, allowing the preparation of ethyl esters of oleic and palmitic acids as main compounds.
