Background: Child and family-centered care (CFCC) is gaining traction as an important philosophy of care based on the active participation of children and young people in decisions and the partnership between families and health professionals. This study aimed to explore the developmental trends and research focus of CFCC literature through bibliometric analysis of articles published from 1990 to 2023.Method: For the identification of studies related to child and family-centered care, the Web of Science (WoS) Core Collection and Scopus databases were utilized. Bibliometric analysis and visualization were conducted using the R language, along with the bibliometrix, openxlsx libraries, and the biblioshiny interface. The study performed citation, co-occurrence, co-authorship, co-word analysis, and trend topic analysis.Findings: Between the years 1990 and 2023, a total of 1,613 publications were released concerning CFCC. The United States was the foremost country in hosting the most publications. The Journal of Pediatric Nursing was the most prolific journal (n=149). Shields L was the author with the highest number of publications on the topic (n=23), while Gorski L.A. received a high rate of citations. Trend topic analysis highlighted key terms such as ‘‘family-centered care’’, ‘‘nursing’’, “parents’’.Conclusion: The number of research studies on CFCC has been declining in recent years. Future research on CFCC should focus on increasing co-authorship and international collaboration, as well as on exploring new research topics. Practice implications: The findings of this study and the trend analysis may provide new insights for researchers or pediatric nurses working in the field of CFCC.
