This paper presents the results of an exploratory research made with an online questionnaire to identify reading habits and preferences of 44 production engineering students from a Brazilian public university.The results indicate that the stereotype (according to which Engineering students do not like to read) was not confirmed.In terms of self-perception the sample students likes to read and most of them (68%) sees themselves as people who "read little".More than a half of students (55%) read four or more books in the year before the survey.This number is larger than the results of other surveys.The lack of time is the major reason why students do not read more books.
