This document reports the reverse engineering process performed to reuse cameras from obsolete closed remotely piloted aircraft systems, like the Scaneagle, in new aircraft systems. This process includes to decode the camera commands, the use of a radio control to achieve wireless communication with the camera, and the design of pieces to make the camera a fixed on board piece of the RPAS, ensuring stability and reducing vibrations. The main objective of the project reported is to take advantage of the discarded Scaneagle cameras in future systems, generating significant savings. However, the methodology could be extended to reuse almost any camera from an obsolete system. For this particular case, this will allow the Colombian Air Force to carry out intelligence operations and other missions without the need to acquire new cameras.
