This paper introduces a comprehensive numerical study on wide-area control (WAC) for power systems that incorporate static synchronous series compensation (SSSC). The proposed WAC utilizes a nonlinear model-predictive control strategy to enhance transient performance through effective coordination of control actions, between generators and the SSSC, in a two-area power system. To assess the efficacy of the proposed control, a series of numerical experiments are conducted using CasADi under a Matlab platform. Various inputs were considered including turbine, speed governor, excitation system, and the SSSC reference signal. Results are promising in terms of applying model-predictive control to this problem.
