Assessment of Community Capacities for the Promotion of Well-being in Undergraduate Nursing Students at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana – Sede Bogotá: An Approach from the Directives.
Background: In recent years, the relationship between general well-being and its positive impacts on various dimensions of life has become more profound, which has led different organizations such as Higher Educational Institutions to promote the creation of policies, guidelines, and programs, adjusted to their community capacities, aimed at fostering the wellbeing of their communities. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the community capacities addressed for the development of a well-being program targeting undergraduate students at the Nursing School of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana - Sede Bogotá. Methods: A qualitative and quantitative assessment of community capacities was carried out through the application of The Community Capacity Building Tool, previously translated and adapted, to the members of the Nursing School Board in charge of the activities of the "Medio Universitario" directed to undergraduate students. Results: Four community capabilities are recognized as strengths among the directives surveyed, these include: External Support, Asking Why, Linking with Others, and Sense of Community. A discordance between quantitative and qualitative data was evident in the Participation and Leadership domains, where high scores were assigned to resources not possessed by the department. The Leadership domain, additionally, presented an inter-evaluator discrepancy, a finding suggestive of the lack of consensus on the resources and structures available for the well-being program. Conclusions: It is undeniable that the Nursing School of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana - Sede Bogotá has promoted the development of interventions aimed at student welfare; however, it is evidente the absence of a structured program as a basis. In this context, the imperative need to develop a meticulous management plan emerges in which responsibilities are defined, resources are recognized, and a control system is established.
