A Food Traceability System (FTS) based on Internet of Things (IoT) technology can record process and quality information along the entire production chain. The IoT paradigm allows communication technologies to expand their reach to provide mass access to the safety status of food products. However, this information presented to the consumer needs more credibility and transparency, as no one can guarantee the integrity of the data collected. This fact highlights both the security gaps in the integrity of information in systems of this nature and the vulnerability to security attacks in complex food traceability systems. Implementing Blockchain technology at the sensors' hardware level increases IoT devices' reduced security capabilities. This work proposes a Blockchain-IoT (BIoTS) ecosystem capable of parallel traceability of food products along a supply chain and data recorded in the processes. This system can certify processes and products through the massive involvement of IoT devices immersed in the ecosystem. The designed Blockchain-IoT architecture shows excellent potential from a technological and food safety point of view.
