Introduction: obstetric hemorrhage is one of the main causes of maternal death in the world. The main study groups worldwide have recommended early identification of risk factors and active management of the third stage of labor to avoid it.Material and methods: observational-analytical and cross-sectional study; with a population of 100 female patients with risk factors for obstetric hemorrhage, divided into two groups: a study group who were administered 1,300 mg of oral tranexamic acid as a preventive method and a control group. The data is analyzed with normality tests and a p < 0.05 is considered as significant results. Results: the usefulness of orally administered tranexamic acid to prevent obstetric hemorrhage, with a reduction in the relative risk of hemorrhage, was 80% when it occurred in the control group. Conclusion: it was concluded that tranexamic acid is effective as a preventive method of obstetric hemorrhage, finding a lower incidence in the study group.
