Internet is a very productive tool, if it is used properly, but it also brings multiple risks and threats that affect to children and adolescents. This generates the question: How to control the risks faced by children and adolescents in the network, in an effective way, through parental control tools, in the city of Manizales? To answer this question a research is developed, divided in two phases. The first phase is to review the risks to which children and adolescents are exposed online, including conducting surveys applied in Manizales. The second phase will analyze parental control tools, along with experts’ recommendations in order to propose a parental control protocol and a supporting tool, according to city’s characteristics. In this paper are presented the results of the first phase of the research, providing relevant information for researchers in the area and for the community in general.
