Radiation-emitting devices are part of daily life. With more of this type of products constantly being introduced to the market, existing regulations are needed to ensure their safety and effectiveness. The United States (US) Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is in charge of protecting the public from the dangers of exposure to radiation emitted by electronic products, and it fulfills this function by regulating manufacturers through pathways that standardize processes related to the assembling, import, distribution, advertising, labeling, and surveillance of radiation-emitting electronic products. Additionally, there are several state agencies that focus on regulating the use of the products beyond the marketing processes. This chapter presents the regulatory basics of radiation-emitting electronic products.
