Translational medicine links basic research, to its implementation in the clinic and the playing field; as in the case of sports medicine. Challenges such as ethical considerations, regulations, delays in authorization, and a shortage of funds may hamper the progress of many studies. Additionally, government regulations and political interests that vary from country to country can cause few trials to succeed. There are strategies that seek to reduce the gap between the bench and the bedside/field; and this begins with understanding the nuance of regulations in different countries. This can translate into an increase in the rate of studies that reach completion and can be reproducible.
