Background: Higher morbidity and mortality related to diabetes and cardiovascular disease have been reported in individuals with short stature.In Mexico, the prevalence of short stature and obesity in individuals with short stature according to national criteria is unknown.Objective: To estimate, in Mexicans aged 20-59 years, the prevalence of short stature, and obesity in individuals with short stature according to NOM-008-SSA3-2017.Methods: This study analyzes data from the 2006, 2012 and 2018 National Health and Nutrition Surveys (ENSANUT).Women < 150 cm and men < 160 cm were classified as short stature.Obesity was established when these subjects had a body mass index ≥ 25 kg/m 2 .The national prevalence of short stature was 27.3, 22.9, and 22.9%, while that of obesity in individuals with short stature was 73.5, 75.0, and 78.4% in 2006, 2012, and 2018, respectively.From 2006 to 2018, the prevalence of short stature decreased by 16.1%, while the prevalence of obesity increased by 6.7% in people with short stature.Conclusion: During the referred period, there was a reduction in the prevalence of short stature, although it remains high.Meanwhile, the prevalence of obesity has increased in this population group.
