Today a global trend in the formation and implementation of National Qualifications Frameworks (NQF), as part of permanent learning strategies; in other words, those that encompass all the learning activities carried out throughout life cycle of people, be they formal, non-formal or informal and whose basis is the learning results obtained in each one of them, rather than in the process to achieve them. Taking this into account, this research examines the advances and limitations of the MNC for Colombia. Because of this, a review and analysis of policy documents on the subject are presented, those produced by international organizations and private institutions, consulting reports, pronouncements produced locally and considered in the light of developments in international experience. The documents were selected because they provide relevant information on the way in which the Colombian government authorities and other agents have understood and developed this instrument of the MNC, which is important - because it allows the articulation and flexibility of the basic, secondary and secondary education systems. higher education and training for work - in the conformation of the country's National Qualifications System.
