The perspective of thumb amputation will be addressed as a situation in which the patient faces the effects of both the surgical procedure and making evident his condition as a person with emotions, desires, worries and uncertainties, in the face of his new condition. The importance of the thumb as a special component of the hand (and of the body, of course), will reflect, especially in the case of its loss, the different considerations and conflicts that patients can express regarding their expectations of what can be considered a full life. As will be seen, this situation stablish the patient and the medical staff jointly before the approaches and challenges proposed by the consideration of the person from different dynamics and relationships, both affective and moral.
