Using a discrete choice experiment, this work discloses the preferences of young Colombians regarding attributes such as: remote or on-site work modality, flexible schedules and the existence of additional benefits such as prepaid medical insurance. The study analyzes the preferences of men and women separately. The experiment was carried out between the months of February and April 2022 and included the participation of 367 young Colombians aged between 22 and 28 years. The results indicate that, of the evaluated characteristics, the ones that have the most relevant are, in order: 100% prepaid medical insurance, remote work modality and flexible schedules. Analyzing through a methodology of willingness to pay, it was found that young people are willing to sacrifice an average of $346,000 Colombian pesos of their monthly salary to have remote work benefits and up to $356,000 Colombian pesos of their monthly salary to have a 100% prepaid medical insurance. Important variations are also found between men and women: while men have a greater preference for a non-monetary benefit such as the 100% prepaid medical insurance, women prefer to have other non-monetary benefits such as remote work and flexible schedules. In terms of willingness to pay, on average, women would sacrifice approximately $69,000 Colombian pesos more of their monthly salary than men to obtain remote work, and approximately $77,000 additional Colombian pesos of their monthly salary to obtain flexible schedules.
