This article surveys Colombia's social and environmental conflicts. Colombia is the second most biodiverse country in the world and has more than half of the world's paramos. The article analyses the dynamics of these conflicts, describing the legal and political framework. Despite the achievements of the social and environmental movements before the high courts and the national and international commitments regarding the conservation of moors, the legal protection of these paramos continues to be uncertain.
