Discourses and processes about artistic modernity intertwine and, at the same time, are delineated within cultural magazines. Novelty appeared in their pages as a foundation and driving force, to varying degrees and with different goals of updating or renewal. Cultural magazines have not only been key sources for many historiographical reinterpretations regarding modern art topics but also objects of study in and of themselves. Names, ideas, and images that emerged from these publicationsformed ideological networks throughout the continentwhile also defining specific circuits of cultural issues andediting. Thus, magazines allowed for the formulation ofparticular sections within a visual and cultural plurality, revealing specific and situated selections. Based on this approach, it is argued here that magazines can be considered as fragments of the processes of modern art in Latin America. Under the conceptualization of a fragment, the magazine unfolds both as a device that enables specific narratives about modern art and as a material artifact or montage constructed from diverse pieces.
