This note proposes a new formula for predicting the self-cleansing velocity of suspended particles in sewer pipes. Dimensional analysis is carried out to develop a new equation based on sediment and hydraulic characteristics. Model performance is tested using experimental data collected at laboratory scale and benchmarking data from the literature. The accuracy of the developed formula is evaluated with the Coefficient of Determination (R2), the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) and the Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE). Results demonstrate that the proposed equation is able to predict the particle Froude number and hence the self-cleansing velocity for a wide range of variations of sediment concentration, particle diameter, and hydraulic characteristics.
