This chapter begins with concepts of documentary information on the academic entrepreneur as an actor in economic and social development, and the contribution that this makes in the processes of business alternatives and labor insertion, promoting technological development and scientific knowledge. The qualities and characteristics of the entrepreneur in universities are mentioned, highlighting aspects such as flexibility of ideas, vision in improving business, entrepreneurial spirit, adaptability to changes, agile thinking when making decisions and acting within the framework of professional ethics. In the same way, there are some factors that hinder the academic entrepreneurship processes, such as the comfort zone that the student has at the moment and enter the university and that sometimes prevents him from having a thought beyond the academic, the lack of economic resources to carry out the beginning of a business plan and the motivation regarding the moral and professional support that starts from the academic and family institutions. Finally, it shows factors or variables that the GEM considers in its study, as an impediment to carry out any entrepreneurial activity in Colombia, affecting competitiveness and regional and national growth, as part of sustainable development.
