Summary Due to the constant demand for energy by human beings and the sudden climatic changes due to greenhouse gas emissions caused by the use of hydrocarbon energies, the increase in global temperature, as well as the massive deforestation of large areas of forests and jungles to obtain wood as a source of energy in homes and industries, it is necessary to investigate other sources of energy that are friendlier to the planet, such as biomass. In Colombia, there are different types of agro-industrial wastes such as coconut shells that are currently being used to generate energy thanks to their calorific value, and can also be transformed into charcoal to maximize its energy efficiency. Thanks to this process of modifying the use of coconut shells, which is not so complex, small projects have been proposed in rural areas of Colombia to use these wastes.
