The Low-Voltage Ride-Through and voltage support capabilities of grid-tied inverters play a critical role in the stability and reliability of power systems with high penetration of distributed generation. In this sense, a fast and accurate synchronization algorithm is necessary for the proper operation of the inverter during voltage sags. The algorithm estimates the frequency, magnitude and phase of the voltages at the point of common coupling. Moreover, the sequence components characterization is often desired as an input for the voltage support strategy. In this context, a comparative analysis of five different synchronization algorithms under the occurrence of voltage sags is presented. The performance of the algorithms is analyzed through simulations in MATLAB Simulink, considering as comparison criteria the settling time, the steady-state error and the overshoot.
