Interlock phenomena is strongly related to mechanical ageing due to soil grains reorientation and particle rearrangements. Image analysis techniques for Volumetric Block Proportion (VBP) estimation and conventional tests were applied to classify the block-matrix mixture. Udden-Wentworth analysis was used to identify size distribution on Bogota-Villavicencio Highway hillslopes. Particle superficial roughness was measured through Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) to evaluate the microfabric of granular materials from fluvio-lacustrine deposits. This paper presents the preliminary results to understand how the interlocking occurs between the fractions (clastic and matrix) through different techniques of analysis from macroscale to microscale.
