As the oil and gas industry progresses, exploration and development are becoming more challenging every day as the easily recoverable reservoirs are already exhausted. Presently the industry is focusing on tectonically active terrains, unconventionals, deep-water and extended reach drilling is becoming a common practice. Operational activities in these areas are associated with high risks, thus incur high costs for mitigation measures. To reduce the drilling and completion risks, industries worldwide are relying on geomechanical solutions specific to the field. This paper will provide an insight into the geomechanical applications specific to a few challenges through four case studies.
