The SARS-COV-2 pandemic has had a great impact on the fitness centers industry worldwide. In early March 2020, the government of Colombia determined that only essential activities could operate in the most severe phases of the pandemic closing all fitness facilities nationwide. By the middle of August 2021, the operation of fitness centers was allowed under specific norms. PURPOSE: To describe the membership status and occupancy in 91 fitness centers in Colombia since the re-opening after the SARS-COV-2 pandemic. METHODS: From September 2020 until September 2021, a descriptive study was conducted in 91 fitness centres in Colombia. To establish the number of members affiliated, monthly reports by the sales departments of the company were reviewed. Occupancy defined as the total number of people that might occupy a building or space at any one time, was based on monthly information reported by the electronic self-check-in barrier at the front desk of the facilities. RESULTS: A company report dated February 2020 informed a total of 201.584 members nationwide and an occupancy of 153.909 (81.2%). After re-opening, in September 2021, the number of members was 195.125 (96.7% of pre-pandemic levels), it decreased monthly until May 2021, reaching 137.487 (68%), growing monthly until September 2021 with 147.524 (73%). As for occupancy, at re-opening 20.191 (15% of monthly members) users were training in the facilities, increasing until September 2021 when 96,540 (65.4%) used the facilities. CONCLUSIONS: Considering the role that exercise play in disease prevention, Fitness centers and exercise facilities should be considered essential business and operate according to established industry standard. Members seems to be returning slowly to Fitness Centres and will increase the occupancy once the restrictions are lifted. The SARS-COV-2 pandemic does not seem to have a lasting effect on Fitness Centres membership or occupancy.
