At the time of the institutionalization of anthropology in Colombia, Rogerio Velásquez emerged as the first Afro-Colombian ethnologist in a context of Indigenist nationalism. The objective of this chapter is to describe the general traits of his contributions to the anthropology of negredumbre, thus highlighting his role as a pioneer in Afro-Colombian studies.
