Cover Feature: Cyclization Strategies Using Imide Derivatives for the Synthesis of Polycyclic Nitrogen‐Containing Compounds (Eur. J. Org. Chem. 36/2022)
The Cover Feature shows the structures of some active alkaloids isolated from frogs and other natural sources. It also shows some Colombian and Latin American native frogs from which certain of those alkaloids are isolated. Colombia and Brazil are the two countries with the most abundant diversity of frog species, some of them critically endangered. Chemical synthesis is a powerful alternative to the exploitation of natural resources and can serve to protect menaced frog species. This review gives details on the strategic cyclization method to access such alkaloids. The cover has been designed by using photos “Black-legged dart frog” by Johan Fredriksson, “Dyeing dart frog” by Freetoast, and “Kokoe Poison Dart Frog” by Thomas Ruedas, published under license CC BY-SA 3.0.
