In this paper, some models of Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices and their dynamic behavior under a short-circuit event will be discussed. Particularly, the model of a Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) and a Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC) based on a previous work are reconstructed using the EMTP-RV software. Based on these simulations, it was observed that when a fault occurs nearby the connection point of these devices, the control response is strongly altered. Only when the devices are disconnected and reconnected, the steady state is reestablished. Besides, some overvoltages are present during the commutation stages and high currents are established through the device making it mandatory to take protective actions mainly represented by its disconnection. As a conclusion, the implementation of these devices in more complex scenarios would aid in better understanding their response and possible improvements in the control strategies.
