In this study we explore how different South American countries govern theuse of commercial platforms in education systems and to what extent they alerttheir citizens from the potential risks. The analysis focused on public education institutions from eight countries (Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador,Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay), and how they reacted (or not) to protect the citizenship and especially the educational community privacy at the beginning of thepandemic in 2020.The questions that guided this work were: How public institutions of SouthAmerica reacted when the privacy risks of Zoom were made known? Where didthey put their emphasis? What lessons can be learned? From these questions, we have organised the chapter into four sections: (1) General background; (2) Methodology; (3) Results; and (4) Discussion and conclusions.
