The Heuristic-based Hierarchical Clustering (HHC) [Cota et al., 2010] is a simple, but effective, author grouping method that attempts to solve the author name disambiguation problem based on the following two real-world assumptions: (i) very rarely two authors with similar names and sharing a coauthor in common would be two distinct persons in the real world; and (ii) authors tend to publish on the same subjects and in the same venues for some portion of their careers. HHC follows these two assumptions to group the authorship records belonging to a same author.
