This paper lays out the basis and strategies used for the development of a didactic proposal for the first cycle of basic education, using the subject of music education as the backbone of learning.The central theme revolved around musical identities.This proposal offered a possibility for interdisciplinary work in the classroom, connecting objectives, didactic strategies, and learning with the subjects of Language, and communication, History, Geography and Social Sciences and Physical Education.In the first stage, a bibliographic review was carried out, later topics of interest were selected, and the teaching units were designed, one for each level from first to fourth grade.A pilot experience was carried out in a school in the region of Valparaiso, Chile, during a period of eight weeks of work in the classroom.The results show the diverse possibilities of interdisciplinary learning present in the Study Programs proposed by the Ministry of Education for the first cycle of basic education in Chile.On the other hand, this study made it possible to show that music education can be an effective means to ensure that learning at school has a meaningful character for students.
