Life Cycle Assessment of DDGS produced by stillage drying in a corn-based biorefinery

Abstract:

With regard to the growing emphasis on sustainability in recent years, evaluation of the environmental performance of drying is considered.This paper aims to analyze the environmental burdens associated with whole stillage drying in a biorefinery through Life Cycle Assessment(LCA) methodology.The results reveal that the ring dryer has fewer environmental impacts in comparison with the bundle tube dryer.Also, LCA analysis confirmed that the use of natural gas as an energy source, whether for steam or heat production, has a smaller contribution to environmental impacts compared to coal and oil consumption.
